What is an implant?,

What is an implant?

It is a material made of titanium that is placed in the place of lost teeth for therapeutic purposes and does not have any side effects for the organism.
Implants undertake the tasks of missing natural teeth they are placed.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF IMPLANT APPLICATION?

Implant application is a comfortable, robust and reliable treatment. Prostheses made on implants create the most natural structure while replacing real teeth. During the completion of missing teeth, healthy teeth are not touched and they have a much longer life compared to all prostheses. Thanks to the confidence it feels, it also eliminates the negative psychological effects of tooth deficiency.

IMPLANTATION IN DENTISTRY

Implant is a simple procedure that can be performed by specialist dentists under local anesthesia.
The tooth made on the implant looks like your natural tooth, it shows a natural performance.

WHEN IS THE IMPLANT RECOMMENDED?

In toothless lower and upper jaws; In cases the patient cannot use the prosthesis as a result of excessive bone resorption. The prosthesis is placed on the implants to increase the retention.
In case of loss of large molars, if the back region ends without teeth; Instead of a partial prosthesis that can be attached and removed to patients, a fixed bridge can be made with a few implants.
In case of loss of a single tooth; A single implant can be placed instead of this tooth, preserving the teeth on both sides of the lost tooth.
In long toothless spaces; Since the length of the bridge body will cause problems when a fixed bridge is built, the support and strength of the bridge to be made with one or more implants to be applied to the toothless area can be increased.

CAN IMPLANT BE APPLIED AT ANY AGE?
Implants can be applied at any age. Bone development only needs to be completed in young people. This happens until the age of 16-17 for girls and 18 for boys.
There is no upper age limit for adults. It can be applied to people of all ages with suitable general health conditions. Older people need dental implants more because they lose more teeth and there is melting in their jaw bones.

CAN IMPLANTS STAY IN THE MOUTH ALL LIFE?

The first patients have been using their implants successfully for more than thirty years. This period depends on several variables such as general health condition, daily care and cleaning of the implant, systemic diseases that the patient has. However, as with any other medical procedure, in principle, it is not possible to provide a lifetime guarantee.

WHAT IS THE SUCCESS RATE IN IMPLANTS?

For the success of implants, good general health, that is, sufficient "healing potential", should be diagnosed correctly and the cleaning and maintenance of the implant should be done correctly. In addition, appropriate surgery and prosthesis must be made by the physician. Also, smoking too much and / or excessive use of alcohol will negatively affect success. Depending on the above factors, implant success may vary between 90-100.

WILL I HAVE DISEASES DURING AND AFTER THE OPERATION?

The operation is performed under local anesthesia without any pain or discomfort. After the operation, there may be a slight pain or swelling that can be heard after any tooth extraction. These ailments are easily relieved with painkillers and necessary precautions.

HOW LONG DOES THE IMPLANT IMPLEMENTATION AND PROSTHESIS BE COMPLETED?

The duration of the surgery can vary half an hour to a few hours depending on the number of implants to be placed and the patients conditions. After the operation, it is waited for 3 months for the implant and the bone to fuse. Then, prostheses are placed on these implants with an application that lasts a few s.

1-Inspection

This stage may consist of medical and dental examinations. If the general health condition of the patient is suitable for implant application, the dentist decides on the type and length of the implant to be used according to a special x-ray to be taken and the condition of the teeth in the mouth. At this stage, it is very important that the physician who will decide on the implant and the prosthesis to be made later should be experienced in this field and make the planning together with the Maxillofacial Surgeon who will apply the implant.

2-Operation

The operation should be performed by a Maxillofacial Surgeon. The dentist who will make the prosthesis should also participate in the operation and help the application to be performed as planned. The implant is placed under local anesthesia. The incision is made over the gum and the slot the implant will be placed is opened in the bone with appropriate tools. The implant is placed in this slot using special tools. The process may take between 30-90 minutes depending on the number of implants to be applied.

3-Healing phase

After the implant is placed, a certain time must pass for it to integrate with the bone. This period is minimum 3 months. During this period, a temporary prosthesis can be applied to the patient, if necessary. Patients can feed normally on the implanted implants without direct chewing burden. During the recovery period, the practitioner of the implant calls the patient for controls at regular intervals and may request an x-ray again if necessary.

4-Placement of Implant Superstructure

After the healing period is completed and the implant periphery is completely filled with new bone, the upper structure is placed on the implant.

SUCCESSFUL IMPLANTATION

The patients role in the success of the implant is very important.
Just as the health of natural teeth and gums will be endangered in a patient who does not do well with oral care, the same will be the case with implants.
For this reason, the patient who has been implanted should pay maximum attention to oral care for his own health and long-term implant success.
In order to be able to talk about the success of the implant applied, its response when the load is placed on it is important. In other words, the success of an implant should be started to be followed after the prosthesis is made on it. In general, the time to wait for the implant to be considered successful is the first year after the prosthesis is made. This reveals the importance of prosthesis on implants. The prosthesis should be carefully planned and made, planning that would place excessive load on the implant in the bone should be avoided and the height of the prosthesis should be carefully reviewed.
